PERAN ETIKA KEAGAMAAN DALAM PENGGUNAAN MEDIA SOSIAL DI KALANGAN MAHASISWA
Keywords:
Religious Ethics, Social Media, University StudentsAbstract
The rapid development of digital technology, particularly social media, has significantly transformed communication patterns and behavioral tendencies among university students. Social media functions not only as a medium for interaction and entertainment but also as a space for shaping attitudes, values, and religious identity. However, the absence of ethical awareness in its use has led to various problems, such as the spread of hoaxes, hate speech, intolerance, and moral degradation. In the context of Indonesian society, which is religious and multicultural, religious ethics play a crucial role as a moral foundation in guiding social media usage. This study aims to examine the role of religious ethics in shaping students’ behavior in the use of social media. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach through a literature review of academic journals, books, and relevant previous studies. The findings indicate that the internalization of religious ethics serves as a moral filter that helps students control their behavior in digital spaces, encourages responsible and tolerant communication, and prevents destructive social media practices. Religious ethics therefore remain highly relevant as a normative guide in addressing the challenges of the digital era.
