This study aims to describe how students from East Nusa Tenggara understand, adapt to, and build cross-cultural interactions within the context of urban life in Makassar City. As a cultural minority group, students from East Nusa Tenggara face challenges in navigating social norms, language differences, and local customs that differ from their cultural backgrounds. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, this study finds that the process of cultural understanding involves not only external adaptation but also personal identity transformation. Factors such as openness, social support, and the availability of multicultural interaction spaces influence the success of cultural integration. These findings highlight the importance of fostering cross-cultural awareness in higher education environments as an effort to strengthen social harmony and inclusion within diversity. The results further indicate that cultural understanding goes beyond behavioral and communication adjustments, involving changes in self-identity and how individuals perceive their social environment. The success of cultural integration is influenced by openness, social support, and the presence of multicultural interaction spaces.
