Abstract

Database design is a crucial component in developing an e-commerce system, particularly to ensure consistent, secure, and efficient data management. A well-designed database is able to optimally support transaction processes, data storage, and integration between system components. This study discusses the design and implementation process of a relational database in a web-based e-commerce system using a needs analysis approach, Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) modeling, normalization to the third form (Third Normal Form/3NF), and implementation using MySQL. The research method is carried out in stages to ensure the resulting database structure has good data integrity and consistency. The results of the study indicate that the designed database structure is able to reduce data redundancy, increase data integrity, and support transaction processes more efficiently. In addition, the resulting database structure is flexible so it can be developed to support more complex e-commerce features.
