RELEVANSI NILAI-NILAI KITAB TA’LIM AL- MUTA’ALLIM DALAM PRAKTIK BIMBINGAN DAN KONSELING ISLAM

Abstract

This article examines the relevance of the ethical and pedagogical values found in al-Zarnūjī’s Ta‘līm al-Muta‘allim to contemporary practices of Islamic Guidance and Counseling (Bimbingan dan Konseling Islam/BKI), particularly within the pesantren-based academic environment of Universitas Islam Tribakti Kediri. The study is based on the premise that character formation, spiritual maturity, and academic ethics are essential components of a Muslim counselor’s competence yet these dimensions are often overshadowed by the technical and administrative emphasis of modern education. Through a descriptive-critical analysis of several core principles in Ta‘līm al-Muta‘allim, including sincere intention, respect for teachers, diligence, self-regulation, consultative learning, and solidarity, this article demonstrates that al-Zarnūjī’s classical teachings retain strong contemporary relevance. These values provide a moral and methodological foundation for BKI students to develop self-discipline, reflective capacity, scholarly ethics, and empathy in counseling interactions. The findings suggest that integrating these ethical teachings into the BKI curriculum such as through character-based modules and ethically grounded supervision models can significantly enhance the professionalism and relational quality of future Islamic counselors.
