DAMPAK KEHADIRAN KERETA CEPAT WHOOSH TERHADAP MASYARAKAT INDONESIA

Abstract

The Jakarta–Bandung High-Speed Railway (Whoosh) project was one of the strategic programs designed to strengthen connectivity between urban regions and to accelerate the development of transportation infrastructure in Indonesia. This study aimed to examine the social and economic impacts arising from the operation of the Whoosh high-speed railway using a qualitative descriptive approach. The research data were derived from secondary sources collected from various credible references, including scientific journal articles, official government reports, and national media coverage. The findings indicated that the presence of the Whoosh high-speed railway had generated significant positive impacts, particularly in reducing traffic congestion, improving travel time efficiency, and enhancing the quality of life of the community. In addition, the operation of Whoosh contributed to minimizing potential economic losses caused by congestion and excessive fossil energy consumption, while also creating new employment opportunities in areas surrounding the railway corridor. Nevertheless, issues related to intermodal transportation integration and the affordability of ticket prices for low-income communities remained important challenges that required further attention. Overall, the Whoosh high-speed railway made a substantial contribution to the development of the national transportation system and was expected to become a key element in the advancement of sustainable and efficient infrastructure development.
